Her first breakthrough came from her acclaimed performances as a supporting actor in films like The Cotton Club, Red Dawn and The Cotton Club. Grey later became a household name as she played insecure Jeannie on Ferris Bueller's Day Off, the classic John Hughes comedy opposite Matthew Broderick. The iconic character she played in the film as Frances Houseman (aka Baby) in Dirty Dancing with Patrick Swayze was the result. Grey was awarded the Golden Globe for Best Actress nomination. Wind, Bloodhounds of Broadway, Bounce, Red Belt and other film adaptations followed. Grey was a part of Peter Mehlman, Seinfeld's co-producer Peter Mehlman's popular TV sitcom It's Like You Know. She has TV appearances include The Westside Waltz starring Shirley MacLaine along with Liza Minnelli & Kathy Bates; the HBO series Fallen Angels - A Dime nominated for a Dance Cable Ace Award, Best actor as well as Murder in Mississippi starring Rita Shwerner. She appeared as Rita in David Milch HBO series John from Cincinnati.
