Laura Linney's portrayal as vulnerable and yet powerful characters has helped make her one of the top American actors. Her father was a renowned playwright. However, she was raised as an only child by her single-mother and nurse. Through the summer months, while with her dad Linney discovered a love for theatre. Linney eventually pursued acting initially in Brown University then at Juilliard School. After just two short years after graduation, she launched her Broadway-based career. The following year she made her debut in the world of film and television. In the years since, she's appeared in countless films and TV and stage productions. In her long professional career, she's received several awards. Some of them include two Golden Globe Awards and four Primetime Emmy Awards as well as three Academy Award nominations and five Tony Award nominations. In spite of all the awards she has received the theatre is still her primary passion and she has continued to appear both on screen and on stage.
