Laura Linney's portrayal of vulnerable and yet powerful characters has earned her the title of one of today's greatest American actors. Her father was a celebrated writer, however Linney was raised as an only child by a single mom who was a nurse. During the summers when she was with her father Linney was able to develop a passion for the theatre. She eventually studied acting first through Brown University then at Juilliard School. When she graduated from Brown University she made her Broadway debut soon afterward. Within two years of the time, her debut film hit the market, and following year, her debut on television. She has been featured on a number of stages, films and television programs since. Throughout her career, she has received several awards. Some of them comprise the two Golden Globe Awards and four Primetime Emmy Awards as well as three Academy Award nominations and five Tony Award nominations. However, in spite of all the awards she has received, theatre has remained her first love and she continues to perform both on screen and on stage.
