Katherine Heigl has opened up about how she was born into an environment that was a "white bubble" and how this realisation has impacted how she parents her adopted multiracial children. In an interview, the "Firefly Lane" actress, along with "Grey's Anatomy" actress admitted her looks didn't bother her. However, when having a conversation with her adoptive sister in South Korea about how society had treated them, she was aware of the stark differences they were. Meg was asked whether she was treated differently when they were out together with their parents or the time they were on their own. Meg replied "Oh Yes, all the time!" Heigl told her parents it made her realize just the extent of her ignorance. According to the actor, she became angry. But, she was determined to channel this energy into helping her adopted girls. Heigl is with Josh Kelley for 13 years, have a son, Joshua Bishop Kelley Jr. They have adopted Nancy Leigh (age 12) from South Korea and Adalaide (age 8), who is black and was adopted in 2009.
